Home remedies for removing blackheads

A teaspoon of baking soda mixed with a few drops of water will work as an exfoliant to remove blackheads. For those who are not aware, the combination of baking soda and water has been used as an effective de-tackifier — one that whitens and tone-protects skin.

According to Harvard Medical School, the combination of egg yolks and baking soda bleeds away dead cells and free radicals, killing or at least neutralizing them. It reportedly “recognizes free radicals as a threat to cellular integrity and works to neutralize them.” Egg yolks contain a high amount of actinomycin-resistant bacteria (not harmful, but not helpful), so I’ll be adding that to my arsenal of secret weapons for daily cleanings, such as baking soda and lemon or lime.

Another ingredient called egg protein acts as an antioxidant to repel acne by trapping dead skin cells. Antioxidants are good; blackheads tend to give me intense acne symptoms, so I keep this one at the bottom of my list. There’s no mistaking that jar of baking soda and water for anything else, especially when you mix it with egg yolks and sweetener. It’s the classic DIY acne treatment.

How to remove blackheads with baking soda

Baking soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate, is a natural exfoliant that can help you eliminate blackheads. Mix two teaspoons of baking soda with a few drops of water, and then use a cotton swab or a toothbrush to apply the mixture to your face. Leave it on for a few minutes, and then wash it off with water.

Salicylic acid is another popular acid that exfoliates your skin. Mix a few drops of it with water and apply a few drops to your blemishes. This toner and or pore filler can also help reduce blackheads by exfoliating dead skin cells away. You may be wondering why you shouldn’t use these acids straight after cleansing.

According to Medical News Today, acids used to exfoliate the skin after cleansing can increase inflammation. This can lead to redness, flaking, swelling, and a ridge forming where the acid was used. “Because without adequate moisture, exfoliating acids become ineffective in restoring and maintaining optimal skin health,” reads Medical News Today.

So when using acids before cleansing, slather on extra moisturizer or evening primrose oil to seal in the moisture you’ll need. A trip to the dermatologist is never a waste of time. Rather than treat blackheads as one, use the tips and advice in this article to get rid of your daily zits, minimize the adverse side effects of dermatitis, and keep your skin looking and feeling its best.
